Piano and Vocal Tuition

Learning to play the piano or tuning your vocal cords can be amongst the most rewarding experiences. It may not always be easy but the results and enjoyment are well worth the challenge.

Lessons are student led and as such are based around what you want to achieve. Catering for all levels of student from complete beginner to expert, whether you are wanting to take exams or just learn whilst having fun, with music lessons from Sarah Petrie you can do it.

Piano Lessons

No matter what your size of hand or level of experience, I believe that anyone can learn to play the piano.

I will teach anyone from the age of 5, and from the level of complete beginner to intermediate. All you need is enthusiasm and you’ll have fun learning!

Piano lessons take place at my own home in Hyde (near Glossop & Manchester) and last 30 minutes or 1 hour, charged at £12.50 and £20.50 respectively.

Singing Lessons

I believe anyone can sing, whether it’s in the shower or in performance. Whether it's singing for fun or in public performance, if you want to improve I am happy to teach you.

Due to the development of the instrument that is the human voice, I accept students from the age of 11. I am happy to teach regardless of experience all I ask is for enthusiasm and a will to improve.

FAQs

Q: Do you teach towards exams?
A: I can take any student toward ABRSM exams, but exams aren't something you have to do. I can also take any pupils through any exams they are sitting in high school or college.

Q: Can you travel out to any pupils?
A: Generally no, but depending on the circumstances, I can negotiate with the individual however.

Q: Can you teach young children?
A: I will teach piano to anyone from the age of 5, but I generally won't take any singing pupils below the age of 11.

Q: What genre of music do you teach?
A: In regards to piano tuition, I teach music in the "classical" genre as well as blues, jazz and ragtime. For singing pupils, I again will take them through "classical" music, covering arias, madrigals, sacred and other secular works, and can cover English, Scottish, Latin, German, Italian, and French songs.

Performance

Performance: Labour Conference 2011

I've performed at the Echo Arena for the closing of the Labour Conference. The 2 songs I sung were performed infront of a huge number of people in the Arena and watched on TV by millions. I've made the newspapers including the Manchester Evening News and The Guardian.

About Sarah Petrie

I graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2010, gaining a Bachelor of Music degree with honours. During the course I specialised in Piano and Voice, which I have been learning for 11 and 4 years respectively.

I also enjoy playing flute, guitar and harmonium, further to this I have a keen interest in composing.

In addition to teaching, I am also a choir leader and workshop leader for groups of all ages and abiities. Further to this I also perform in public; for parties, weddings, local events and conferences. To enquire about these services please use the details on "book a lesson" to contact myself.
